Kaleidescape announced the Mini Terra Prime movie server on November 18, the latest and most compact addition to its Terra Prime line. The solid-state unit provides 8TB of internal storage, enough for roughly 125 of Kaleidescape’s high-bitrate 4K movies. It provides silent, rack-friendly expansion.
Kaleidescape says downloads can complete in as little as four minutes over a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet connection, and the server supports up to 25 simultaneous playbacks without quality loss. Movie files are typically 10 times larger than streaming versions, preserving lossless audio and near lossless video from studio masters. Titles are downloaded to the Mini Terra Prime and played back from local storage instead of streamed, ensuring perfect playback.
Key specs
• 8TB internal solid-state storage (about 125 Kaleidescape 4K movies)
• Downloads in as little as 4 minutes over a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet connection
• Supports up to 25 simultaneous movie playbacks without performance loss
• Silent, fanless design with natural convection cooling
• Same footprint as the Strato M and E and is rack-mountable
“Mini Terra Prime is Kaleidescape’s most compact movie server, but it delivers a mighty punch: fast downloads, high performance playback, and ample storage,” said Tayloe Stansbury, chairman and CEO, Kaleidescape. “It is the perfect complement for Kaleidescape M and E reference-quality movie players.”
Beyond storage and speed, a Terra Prime server unlocks Kaleidescape’s full interface, including the iconic cover shuffle view and a list view for quick navigation.

The Mini Terra Prime is designed for whole-home scalability. A system can include up to four Terra Prime servers and any number of Strato players. Bottom line, installation is flexible.

The Mini Terra Prime movie server is available now through authorized Kaleidescape dealers and online for $5,995. More information is available at the Kaleidescape website.
