Whether you’re gifting, sharing, or just planning to pull the drapes and catch up on some of the smartest and most eye-popping animation that the world has to offer, these deluxe Blu-ray editions—and very special LPs—will transform simple entertainment into a collector’s dream. In fact, I can honestly state that some of these are among the most spectacular releases I’ve ever seen on the format: high-end sets, stunning SteelBooks and fancy boxes packed with exclusive bonus items.
Akiba Maid War Complete Collection Blu-ray / I Parry Everything Premium Box Set Blu-ray (both Sentai Filmworks)

Teenaged Nagomi takes a job as a “maid” waitress at the Oinky Doink Café in Akihabara, circa the turn of the millennium, as this Tokyo district was famously becoming a hub for otaku… but it’s all a front for the yakuza. This sets up an absurd contrast between the profound cuteness of the maids and the over-the-top, TV-MA violence they carry out for the nastier aspects of their duties, making it both thrilling and strangely funny. This is the complete saga (12 episodes, five hours total) on two SteelBooked discs, with clean opening/closing animations, a dozen web previews, and a perfect-bound 100-page book bundled inside the colorful plastic slipsleeve.

In I Parry Everything, our painfully humble hero Noor… well, parries everything because in his quest to become an adventurer, he has only ever practiced this single defensive technique. The good news is, he’s gotten so good at it that he can deflect anything from a simple punch to a fire dragon’s breath. That’s how he comes to rescue a naïve young maiden here in Season One. She becomes his page but unbeknownst to him, she is Princess Lynne, and a great many humorous misunderstandings ensue. Within its collector box reside not only the 12-episode Blu-rays (with reversible cover) but a little metal sword, a big fabric poster, an “F-Ranked Adventurer” pin, bumper stickers and a 48-page booklet plus a 154-page “making of” book! Each of these limited-edition sets is individually numbered.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Part 2 Blu-ray Limited Edition (Crunchyroll)

Where most epic quests conclude, Frieren begins, as the immortal elf of the title–having recently vanquished the Demon King–embarks on a new journey of discovery. She contends with the grief of outliving her loved ones (think Highlander) by learning to appreciate life’s little moments of friendship that make our fleeting time here worthwhile. Part 2 of Season One that’s included here on Blu-ray and DVD pivots from its previously slower pace to a higher-tension arc, building upon the thoughtful, melancholic tone that came before. Crunchyroll has chosen to commemorate the series with an elaborate gift box based on Frieren’s ever-present bag of holding, a practical and symbolic prop that’s surprisingly well-made and sturdy IRL. Inside is a 200-page hardcover artbook, three art cards to complete the set begun in the Part 1 Blu-ray (sold separately), and there’s a space to store Part 1 inside the rigid slipcase, which is made to look like a grimoire (Wicked taught me that word). There are also seven “Shikishi” character cards, seven sheets of stickers, a luggage tag and an acrylic standee of Frieren herself.
Castlevania The Complete Series Blu-ray (VIZ Media)

Acclaimed graphic novelist Warren Ellis transformed Konami’s gothic action-platformer videogames into a dark medieval fantasy that follows monster hunter Trevor Belmont, magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s half-human son Alucard as they unite to stop Drac’s 15th-century war against humanity. While maintaining the games’ action and atmosphere–the fight scenes are movie-quality–the anime elevates the characters with meaningful arcs and witty dialogue. All four seasons/32 episodes of the Netflix-produced series are collected here on six discs, along with storyboards, animatics, trailers and voice actor interviews. The handsome box holds much more, however: an art booklet, a set of window clings, a themed 22-card tarot deck, plus a Ouija board and planchette, referred to here as a “game board and game piece.”
Attack on Titan Final Season Complete Blu-ray / Attack on Titan Original Soundtrack Vinyl (both Crunchyroll)

In grand post-apocalyptic fashion, the remaining Survey Corps members have learned the truth of their world and leave the island of Paradis to enter the global conflict, confronting new enemies, old allies, and the consequences of a war that threatens to destroy all life. Released across three years, the four waves assembled in this SteelBook (28 episodes plus two specials, essentially “Season 4”) wrap up the Titan story once and for all, right up to the adaptation of the manga’s unprecedented final conflict. That’s a lot of ground to cover, for a total of more than 16 hours here on seven discs, with behind-the-scenes featurettes, humorous Chibi theater, an art gallery, promo clips and more.

Hiroyuki Sawano’s music for Titan was never just background audio. It’s a loud, aggressive component of the narrative, freely blending powerful orchestral elements, electronic rhythms and sometimes singing that sounds more like screaming, wholly appropriate to the intense, emotional subject matter. LP soundtracks for the first three seasons are available in a variety of configurations, including colored vinyl with a number of different effects (Season 1’s “green with black smoke” shown), some in elegant book-type packaging. They’re a great way to drop the needle and lose yourself in the nightmare all over again.
