Samsung‘s 7th-generation foldables have been making headlines for a while now and are expected to launch sometime in July or August this year. While Samsung may have fallen short of expectations with the Android 15 rollout, One UI 8 is already in development and appears to be tied to the upcoming foldables.

The book-style foldable has appeared on GeekBench, revealing the fact that it’s based on Android 16. To recall, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 5 were launched with Android 14 and Android 13 out of the box.

The book-style foldable, identified by model number SM-F966U—previously linked to the Galaxy Z Fold 7—appeared on Geekbench, as noted by tipster Tarun Vats. The listing confirms it runs Android 16 with One UI 8.0. With a typical July release, One UI 8.0 is just two months away, which suggests Samsung is on schedule for its summer unveiling.

This early benchmark also hints at a bigger jump in terms of software experience. Unfortunately, information is scarce about features and improvements in One UI 8. According to a previous leak, the next version of One UI will bring third-party lock screen widget support, new multitasking features, and enhanced external display management with Samsung DeX.

Hardware-wise, the Z Fold 7 is powered by a Qualcomm processor with the “sun” motherboard codename, which strongly indicates the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The CPU clock speeds are also the same as the S25 Ultra‘s “For Galaxy” branded Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

While specifics like display or camera upgrades remain under wraps, the focus on Android 16 and a high-end chipset signals a competitive edge. Galaxy fans are advised to stay tuned as more information will likely surface as we inch closer to the launch.
