Are you experiencing FOMO by not having foam tips on your older AirPods Pro 1 or 2? Well, I’m here to save the day. You can actually upgrade your previous-generation AirPods Pro with foam tips!
Apple Embraces Foam Tips With AirPods Pro 3
When Apple announced the AirPods Pro 3 in September, I was blown away by one of the changes: foam tips. I’ve been buying foam tips for my AirPods for years, but to see Apple officially switch to them is a huge deal.

Of course, Apple didn’t go with traditional foam tips. Instead, Apple fused “a thin layer of soft foam to the silicone shell.” This is a very unique take, and provides the benefits of both foam and silicone tips.
I’m actually happy with this change. In the past, my foam tips have deteriorated over time due to sweat and heat. Having the foam covered with silicone should remed that problem entirely.

Comply Brings Foam Tips to All AirPods Pro Versions
Ever since I got my first pair of AirPods Pro, I’ve been using Comply foam tips. These aftermarket tips are designed specifically for AirPods Pro (as well as many other earbuds) and offer quite a bit of an upgrade over the old stock silicone tips.

While the AirPods Pro 3 version of Comply’s foam tips aren’t available for purchase yet, the listing page is up with notifications available should you want to switch to traditional foam tips.
However, the main advantage is the fact that Comply offers foam tips for all AirPods Pro models—and AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods Pro 2 share the same tips.

Comply foam tips for AirPods Pro 1 & 2 offer better passive noise isolation, enhanced fit, and more comfort than Apple’s stock silicone ear tips. Designed specifically for your AirPods, these foam tips are built to handle all types of environments. From the construction site to the gym, Comply’s foam tips are ready to block out the noise around you.
This means that you can upgrade your existing AirPods Pro with better sound isolation and all-day comfort without having to buy Apple’s latest earbuds.
The only thing to note is that Comply recommends replacing the tips every three months (or sooner) for active users. I used mine daily in my woodworking shop for about a year before they were completely worn out, but I did eventually have to replace the tips.
I’ve Been Using Comply Tips for Years
As I mentioned, I’ve used Comply tips for several years. I had them on my AirPods Pro 1 and also on my AirPods Pro 2 to use in my woodworking shop. In fact, I used my AirPods as hearing protection when running loud machinery and they worked great.
Comply foam tips aren’t just more comfortable and better at sound isolation when listening to music. I could wear my AirPods Pro with zero music playing and just noise cancellation turned on while running machinery that clocked in at over 100 dB.
While I’ve not tried the new AirPods Pro 3’s tips, I do know that my AirPods Pro 2 with silicone tips aren’t anywhere near as noise isolating as the Comply foam tips. I’m back on my original silicone tips because the Comply tips simply wore out and I haven’t replaced them yet.
However, I do vastly prefer the fit and finish of my Comply tips to the stock silicone tips—hopefully Apple has fixed the falling out issue that’s plagued AirPods Pro silicone tips for years.
Here’s the thing: I love foam eartips, partially because I grew up using noise isolating earbuds instead of noise cancelling, so foam was a necessity there. I think foam makes a huge difference, but the downsides (like wearing out faster) might not be worth it to some.
