Do you listen to music on your Jellyfin server but wish you could close the year with a look-back on your listening history like Spotify Wrapped? I thought I was going to have to do without—until I found Jellyfin Rewind.
I quit paying for Spotify Premium last year, and while I enjoy listening to physical media, the convenience of streaming is hard to beat. The Jellyfin server I was already using for movie and TV streaming supports music, too, so I started uploading my digital music collection. The Finamp client gives me a listening experience similar to Spotify, but there was one thing missing: a year-end lookback.
This website gives me a “Jellyfin Wrapped”
The solution I found for getting a Wrapped-style review for my Jellyfin server was Jellyfin Rewind. It’s not a plugin (though the developer says they want to turn it into one), but instead it’s an open source web app that can remotely connect to your server and generate a “Rewind” for you.
After signing into your Jellyfin account, the Jellyfin Rewind website will analyze what listening history data it can find and generate common Wrapped stats like your top songs, your most-listened albums, and favorite artists. It works on both desktop mobile, but on the mobile website, you can tap through them story-style just like you’d expect.
Jellyfin Rewind also has a few stats unique to the home media server experience, including how many songs your library stores and how many days it would take to listen to all of it. That addition lets you show off not just your listening habits but your music collection size.
Here’s how I added Plex Pass’ best feature to Jellyfin
You don’t have to suffer in silence (to your TV shows’ theme songs).
There are some limitations and requisites for Jellyfin Rewind, though. First, for the website to work on its own, your server needs to be accessible outside your network. If yours isn’t, you can follow the developers’ instructions to self-host Jellyfin Rewind on your local network.
Second, some stats rely on the existence of the Playback Reporting plugin. I’ll go over this in more detail later, but know that the sooner you start using it, the better your Jellyfin Rewind will be.
Additionally, Jellyfin Rewind will ask if you’ve been using the Finamp beta. If you have, you can improve your Rewind by importing your offline listening. Jellyfin itself can’t track what downloaded music you listen to while offline, but the Finamp app (or at least the redesign currently in beta) can do that. You just need to open the navigation menu, tap “Playback History” and hit the share icon in the top-right corner.
You can generate yours now
To get Rewind now, there are two addresses to choose from. Which one you should choose depends on whether your server is secured with SSL. If you look at your server address and see https at the start of it, you can use either. If it says http, you have to use the first option.
Follow the prompts to connect to and log into your server with the same account you use to listen to music.
As you might have already noticed, Jellyfin Rewind at the moment is still in 2024 mode. The 2025 version unfortunately won’t appear until December 31, 2025. Despite this, the 2024 edition will still factor in your listening history over the past year. That means you can get a Rewind now—it’ll just look a little odd with the 2024 text on it. If you’re sharing your Rewind with your friends right now, you’ll want to slap “2025” on top of that.
Some features are missing without this plugin
Unfortunately for me, some of the Rewind stats were missing because I wasn’t using the Jellyfin Playback Reporting plugin. It’s included in the official Jellyfin plugin repository, so you don’t need to add any third-party repositories to access it.
However, you do need to install it first. Open your administrator dashboard and go to Plugins > Catalog in the navigation, then search for Playback Reporting. Click it and install it like you would any other plugin. After a reboot to your server, you can start racking up plays that will appear Jellyfin Rewind the next time you regenerate it.
Be respectful of your Jellyfin users’ privacy if you install this plugin. They may not appreciate their watch history being collected in detail with Playback Reporting. If you open the plugin’s settings menu, you can set the plugin to leave specific users out of the data collection.
Look forward to New Years Eve
Again, Jellyfin Rewinds’ developers say we can expect the 2025 edition to arrive on New Years Eve of this year. You’ll have to hang tight until then, at which point you can regenerate your report. Then you can show off not just your music taste but also your open source self-hosting pride with your Jellyfin Rewind.
