Whether we want them or not, every major manufacturer will likely release an ultra-thin phone to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air. One unlikely competitor that is familiar with thin phones is Motorola, and its upcoming Moto Edge 70 could fix the Air’s biggest problem.
The all-new Moto Edge 70 isn’t available yet, but when it arrives, it might offer stellar battery life, something Samsung and Apple couldn’t deliver. Spotted by 9to5Google, an official Motorola website in Poland is slowly leaking details about the upcoming ultra-sleek phone. This week, Motorola unveiled that this new model will pack a 4,800 mAh silicon carbide battery.
For those unaware, silicon carbide battery packs are the next big thing in smartphones. And while Samsung, Apple, and Google haven’t started using the technology yet, it’s a big deal. Silicon carbide is more energy-dense, allowing for a bigger battery in the same space as a lithium-ion cell. Additionally, these battery packs are more efficient at transferring power, promising longer battery life.
Motorola’s latest teaser image confirms the large 4,800 mAh size and the use of silicon carbide. For comparison, the iPhone Air has a small 3,149 mAh battery, while Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is only 3,900 mAh.

Moto is no stranger to making ultra-thin devices, and we’re assuming this one will be gunning for Samsung and Apple. The Moto Edge line has been pretty great the last few years, software updates aside, and if this phone indeed packs a large battery, capable cameras, and comes in ultra-thin, it’ll be a compelling option for the slim phone crowd.
In fact, one of Motorola’s models from 9 years ago is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, so if anyone can deliver an impressive phone that’s razor-thin yet has good battery life, it’s them.
So far, we don’t have too many other details about the upcoming Moto Edge 70. However, the same website mentions IP68 and IP69, a 50MP camera, and previous leaks claim it’ll support 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, pack a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC and 12GB of RAM. All of this should power a large 6.67-inch 120Hz P-OLED display housed in an ultra-thin frame.
There’s no word yet on how thin the Edge 70 will be, but previous models like the Moto Edge 60 were around 7.9mm, which isn’t as sleek as the latest from Samsung and Apple. We’ll learn more when the phone arrives later this year, likely sometime in November.
And for those keeping track at home, while the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge are slim, there are five thinner phones worth considering. Otherwise, you might want to wait for the Moto Edge 70 and its big battery.
