No, Honor isn’t exiting India—Madhav Sheth clarifies

Reports of Honor’s abrupt exit from the Indian market have sparked confusion online, fueled by a now-deleted X post and speculation around Madhav Sheth’s pivot to a new venture. But Sheth has since clarified that “HONOR isn’t going anywhere or merging with any other brand,” quashing rumors of an exit or handover to Alcatel.

What happened?

Over the past 24 hours, reports citing a now-removed post from the “Explore Honor” India channels suggested that Honor had ceased Indian operations and support. Some platforms even claimed that the official Telegram fan group would rebrand as the “Alcatel India Community,” reflecting Sheth’s reported transition to a new brand under NxtQuantum Shift Technologies.

Madhav Sheth, who previously spearheaded Honor’s return to India via HTech, now lists himself as “Founder & Tech Advisor at Alcatel India” in association with NxtQuantum. The venture is reportedly working on relaunching Alcatel-branded smartphones in India through Nxtcell, under a licensing agreement with TCL.

Design leaks of the upcoming Alcatel V3 Ultra—with a stylus and triple-camera setup—sparked speculation that the device may borrow heavily from TCL’s NxtPaper and NxtVision lineup.

What’s actually going on?

Despite all the signs of a shift, Sheth’s recent denial on X strongly suggests that Honor’s Indian operations are not shutting down or merging with Alcatel. It’s possible Sheth may be working on Alcatel independently while Honor restructures or plans its next steps in India.

Reports from industry sources had earlier pointed to delayed launches, staffing cuts, and import complications faced by HTech, but there’s been no official word from Honor India itself about ceasing operations.

So, is Honor staying or leaving?

Right now, it’s safe to say the rumors of Honor’s exit were premature—or at least overstated. Sheth’s departure from active Honor India leadership may have sparked assumptions, especially with the growing visibility of the Alcatel project. But no official statement from Honor has confirmed a pullout.
