The OnePlus 15 may look identical across its memory options, but there’s a small detail buried in the specs that gives the 16GB model a quiet advantage. It doesn’t just have more RAM — it has faster RAM.

According to the listing, OnePlus is using two different LPDDR5X chips depending on the configuration:
- 12GB model: LPDDR5X Ultra rated at 9,600 Mbps
- 16GB model: LPDDR5X Ultra+ rated at 10,667 Mbps
That’s an 11% speed bump for the higher-tier version. Both are technically LPDDR5X, but the “Ultra+” label points to a newer Samsung memory generation. Vivo used the same branding on its X300 Pro Satellite Edition, so the terminology checks out.
The 10,667 Mbps peak on the 16GB variant also happens to match the baseline speed of LPDDR6, which is expected to roll out in mainstream phones next year. In other words, the 16GB OnePlus 15 is already brushing up against next-gen memory bandwidth.
In day-to-day use, faster RAM can help with things like app switching, multitasking, and a faster on-device AI experience.
The 12GB model is still no slouch. Its 9,600 Mbps LPDDR5X is a solid jump from the OnePlus 13’s 8,533 Mbps memory. But if you want the absolute fastest speeds the OnePlus 15 can offer, the 16GB version is the one that gets the “Ultra+” treatment.

Overall, it’s interesting to see how OnePlus has been leaning harder into performance lately. From the completely flat design to shifting its budget toward a custom router-grade Wi-Fi chip and dedicated touch-response hardware—while using less capable camera hardware than the OnePlus 13 and ending the Hasselblad partnership—it’s clear the company is positioning its latest flagship as a gaming phone that can also double as a regular flagship for many users.
