Google has confirmed that the Pixel 10 series comes with Battery Health Assistance turned on by default, and users cannot switch it off. The feature was first introduced on the Pixel 9a earlier this year, where it was also mandatory. On older Pixel phones, it remains optional.

Battery Health Assistance is designed to slow down charging speeds and reduce the maximum battery voltage over time. According to Google, the software begins lowering the maximum voltage after about 200 full charge cycles. The adjustment continues gradually until 1,000 charge cycles. The company says this helps stabilize battery performance and aging.
In practice, Pixel 10 owners may notice their phones charging more slowly as the battery ages. They may also see shorter runtime, since the effective battery capacity decreases as the maximum voltage is lowered. Google explains that these changes are expected and are part of the system’s effort to extend overall battery lifespan.
Google states that Pixel 8a and newer phones can handle around 1,000 charge cycles before the battery drops to 80 percent of its original capacity. However, Battery Health Assistance effectively reduces usable capacity on top of normal wear. Since the feature cannot be disabled, all Pixel 10 models will experience this gradual change.
Other manufacturers approach battery health differently. Samsung says its flagship phones can reach 2,000 charge cycles before falling to 80 percent capacity. OnePlus and OPPO rate their lithium-ion batteries for around 1,600 cycles before hitting the same point. These longer lifespans reduce the need for software tools that limit charging capacity.
Many phone makers, including Google, already offer optional features such as an 80 percent charge cap to slow down battery wear. With Pixel 10, Google has gone further by making Battery Health Assistance a permanent requirement.
