Qualcomm might tap Samsung Foundry’s cutting-edge 2nm node for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy, according to SEDaily. Set to power the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in late 2026, this chip could mark a big win for Samsung’s foundry, which hasn’t made Qualcomm’s flagship chips since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 failed to match expectations.

Galaxy S26 series to be based on Samsung’s Exynos 2600
As per a new report from SEDaily, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy will be fabricated on Samsung Foundry’s 2nm SF2 node, matching the Exynos 2600’s tech. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, slated for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in H2 2026, won’t power the Galaxy S26 series, which could stick with the Exynos 2600 across all models—S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra.
Although the Galaxy S24 Ultra was powered exclusively by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and S24+ featured the Exynos 2400 in most markets, a similar setup seems unlikely next year. The Samsung-made “For Galaxy” version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly won’t be ready in time for the Galaxy S26 launch. Sure, Samsung could opt for a TSMC-made 8 Elite 2—which might even perform better—but that would undermine the cost-saving goals of developing an in-house solution. Ultimately, much will depend on how well the Exynos 2600 performs and whether it can meet Samsung’s expectations, especially for the S26 Ultra.

Samsung’s SF2, with its GAAFET design, should theoretically edge out TSMC’s N3P FinFET in efficiency, but Samsung’s past struggles with power and performance raise doubts. Designing the same chip for two nodes—Samsung’s 2nm for foldables and possibly TSMC’s for others—could spark a “Chipgate” redux once again.
If Samsung Foundry nails the 2nm node, it could reclaim glory and power Samsung’s foldables without sacrificing sustained performance and power efficiency. But with TSMC’s track record, Qualcomm’s dual-sourcing gamble is a high-stakes play.
