Xiaomi might be preparing to overhaul its software naming strategy, if a report from XiaomiTime is to be believed. The company is reportedly planning to skip several version numbers and jump straight from HyperOS 3 to HyperOS 26 for its next release. The new version would be based on Android 16.
Xiaomi is taking inspiration from Apple, again!
If this pans out, the change in naming scheme will unsurprisingly be inspired by Apple. The California-based tech giant is rumored to call its next iteration of iOS iOS 26 instead of iOS 19. And this rebranding will affect all major Apple platforms, including macOS and watchOS.

While Xiaomi hasn’t officially confirmed the change, the report claims that the company is looking to introduce a naming scheme tied to the calendar year, likely to avoid confusion and offer better clarity around release timelines.
There is not enough evidence to support this claim, though. According to XiaomiTime, the name change is a part of a larger strategy to align Xiaomi’s software with “top market strategies.”
The goal, seemingly, is to offer a more unified and easy-to-follow naming system that helps users quickly identify the latest release.
For now, HyperOS 3 remains the current build, and any change to the version number will likely surface closer to the rollout of Android 16. Until then, this is speculative news, but not an entirely implausible shift in how Xiaomi presents its software.
